A big thank you for coming out to our first QRC (queen’s road central) industry night!  We had a great time and really enjoyed tasting our way through the bottles everyone brought–thank you!  We were especially pleased to see that Gerard Depardieu made an appearance- thanks Rickesh!

12804902_10101637062999631_4044048195211411894_n2002  Gerard Depardieu Ma Verite. Haut Medoc, Bordeaux (Rickesh Kishnani).  Rich and filled with cedar (actual word used “cedary”), sweet and savory with raspberry and dark fruit.  Big, serious, and very modern Bordeaux.

Blind #1- 2010 Leroy Bourgogne Blanc (G+C, $370) Ripe fruit, bright lemon and cream, ample yet not heavy, round, with light fennel and lime flavors.  Fresh acidity with generous but not overwhelming flavors make this incredibly versatile and pleasing.   Punches above its weight.

Blind # 2.  2013 Le Temps Retrouve Macabeau, Roussillon (Meaghan Bence- available from La Cabane).  Gold and cloudy.  Natural with cider, olive, caraway, and funk filled aromas and flavors.  Very appley and totally smashable.

Blind #3. 2013 Lise & Bertrand Jousset Premier Rendez-vouz Montlouis sur Loire (Olivier Ruche- available from La Cabane).  Vanilla cupcakes + apple.  Palate is totally lean and dry with lemon and oyster shells.  Mineral spine and light fresh pressed apple flavors.   Quite light weight and warm.

Blind #4.  2009 Joseph Voillot Volnay Les Champans 1er Cru (Stevie Evans- available G+C $520) Pale ruby, candied with sweet fruit, some chlorine, and pressed black violets with hints of funky earthiness.  Delicious fruit!  Nice concentration, light weight, backward grainy tannins, with a hint of medicinal notes.  Tasty.

Blind #5.  Domaine Luccired.  Basket Range, Adelaide Hills.  Merlot.  Pinot Noir.  Sauv Blanc.  Pinot Gris (Alison Christ).  Cloudy raspberry.  Beautifully bright flavors reminiscent of raspberry puree/coulis. Textured with pepper.  Awesome.

2000 Chateau Bouscasse VV. Madiran (Robbie Taylor- available from Altaya $295).  Chlorine + chocolate + current.  Bordeaux-esq with powdery drying tannins and a hit of vanilla on the finish.

Blind #7.  2006 Gillman Matakana Cabernet Franc, Merlot & Malbec (John Dibble).  This petite Cheval was the WOTN.  Red fruit and vanilla, some cream and wood, punchy tannins and warmth on the back.  Elegant.

Blind #8.  2008 Gillman Matakana Cabernet Franc, Merlot & Malbec.  <2,000 bottles produced per year.  Stewed and rich in fruit, currants, loads of vanilla and more tannin than 2006.  21 months in new oak.  A serious wine.

Blind #10.  2006 Salicutti Piaggione Brunello di Montalcino (Guy Ruston).  Aged balsamic and soy, chocolate powder, big and oxidative with tinned tomato flavors.  Showing old but quite enjoyable.

Blind #11.  2006 (?) Petaluma Coonawarra Merlot (Caroline Que).  Red and bright, silky with some chlorine notes.  Rich.

Blind #12.  2009 Majuelo Díaz Bayo Ribera del Duero (Alexia Dulout). Savoury & meaty with rich fruit, punchy tannins, and a vanilla laced finish.

Blind #13. 2013 Clos des Papes Chateauneuf du Pape (G+C $430).  Sweet fruit (red and black) with loads of pepper. Cool fruit profile.  Super tannic, awesome.  Very Syrah,quick light in weight, and totally delicious now.

Blind #14.  2008 Salvioni Brunello di Montalcino (Rickesh).  Balsamic, dark dusty fruit.  Super smooth, luscious and full, big acidity and tannin.  Delicious.
